Archaelogical Training

Beginning in fall 2016, the project has included a teaching program in the field archaeology of archaeology as one of its scientific initiatives, based on the close partnership with the Departments of History and Geography of the Koya University. The program has been developed with the support of Prof. Robert Rollinger, director of the Institute of Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies of the University of Innsbruck; Dr. Wali M. Hamad and Dr. Haidar Lashkry, the president of the university and vice-president for scientific and post-graduate studies, respectively; and Abubaker Othman Zendin, general director of the antiquities of Iraqi Kurdistan. The aim of the program is to convey a basic knowledge of field archaeology within the curriculum of the Faculty of Education.

This archaeological training comprises an introduction to the basics of archaeological methods and to the application of Geographical Information System (GIS) in archaeology. These seminars help to build up an awareness of cultural heritage in students of History and Geography, who represent the future generation of teachers of primary and secondary schools of the country.
